Quick Trip

A friend and I took the bus up to New York City on Saturday. It was the first time I have done this day trippy thing and I wasn’t sure what to expect with the whole process (not NY. I heart NYC). I am not sure what I feared really, but I am glad to say that it was all good. The bus was not dirty. It did not break down or have any weird mechanical issues. All the employees were professional. And, amazingly, they were on time. In fact, even though we left 10-15 minutes late each time, we arrived on time.

Anyhow, we were only in the city for about 9 hours, but we packed in a lot of eating and shopping and walking and people watching. We came home footsore and not too heavily-laden. My happiest purchase was this.

Madelinetosh dk in Midnight in Manhattan, bought from The Yarn Company. This is an exclusive color for the store, and I think my friend and I might have cleared out most of their stock for this color. I loved it at first sight. I had a whole other pile of yarns that I was intending to buy until I saw this beautiful blue yarn. Now, I am on the hunt for a sweater pattern to go with it.

I also bought some Zen Yarn Garden Serenity Silk for a shawl/scarf and a skein of Woolen Rabbit Sumptuous Sock to make socks for the husband. There was way more there that I wanted to buy, but it will just have to wait until next time. And, thankfully, since the trip was so painless, I am pretty sure there will be a next time.

Oh, almost forgot. We started the day with a trip to Russ & Daughters and I was happy to find this in their sweets case.

Doristas might recognize this as Port Jammers from Dorie Greenspan (and son). There were a lot of other choices, too. I wanted one of each (especially the ones that go with wine and cheese) but my wallet and shoulder could not handle all that. Anyway, I am happy to say they are quite tasty. I especially love the chocolate crumb topping. I may have to try making these myself. I wonder how well they would freeze? Or maybe I’ll just have to make my way back to NYC sooner rather than later.
